Winter session dates
Session 1: November 16 - January 24. Ten classes across the holiday stretch, with no class on Thanksgiving, December 21-27, or January 1.
Session 2: January 25 - March 28. Ten straight classes carrying kids into the spring outdoor season.
The rate is $360-$400 for the full 10-week session at 21-05 Morlot Ave in Fair Lawn, on the indoor courts at Montclair Pickleball.
Why winter is the best time to start
Every outdoor court in Bergen County is closed from mid-November through March, which means winter is the one stretch of the year when a beginner can get consistent, uninterrupted court time. No rainouts, no rescheduling, no half-season.
It is also the quietest season for junior tennis, so groups are smaller and kids get more reps per hour. A kid who plays 20 winter classes shows up in April swinging like a different player than the one who took the winter off.
Indoor courts, junior-sized
Our winter clinics run on full-size pickleball courts, which match USTA junior tennis court dimensions almost exactly. For a 4 to 9 year old, that is the correct size court - the ball comes back inside their reach, rallies actually happen, and confidence builds instead of leaking away chasing balls on an adult court.
Indoors also means consistent bounce and no wind, which matters more than parents expect when a kid is learning to time a forehand.
What to bring in winter
- Indoor court shoes with clean, non-marking soles. Wet boots go in a bag.
- Layers. The building is warm, kids overheat fast, and a hoodie that comes off after warm-up is ideal.
- A water bottle. Indoor air is dry and kids drink less than they should in winter.
- A racquet if you have one. If you do not, we have loaners in every junior size.
