Age 9 · Fair Lawn Indoor

Tennis for 9-Year-Olds

Nine is the transition age. Most kids are ready for regular-compression balls, full-court play, and a step up in intensity. It's also the last year of our 4-9 clinic — after this, kids move into our 10-13 group.

What we focus on at age 9

  • Full-court play with yellow balls (for the strongest)
  • Serve technique with real speed
  • Doubles strategy
  • Preparing for junior team or USTA junior events
Racket size
25 or 26-inch
Ball type
Green dot or yellow, depending on level
Note for parents

This is the age we start recommending private lessons alongside the clinic for kids who want to compete. Not required — most stick with just the group.
